Program Information

ABCs and 123s Volunteer Tutoring Program

ABCs and 123s, formally Learning-to-Learn Differently, is a teacher-guided, yet child and parent focused program.

Our Goal
ABCs and 123s builds the skills that parents need to effectively encourage their children’s emerging literacy and numeracy skills.

The program works by using trained volunteer tutors who will work one-on-one with both parents and children on :

  • key goal areas identified by the child’s teacher;
  • ways to recognize and appreciate unique learning strengths and how to build on these strengths; and
  • helping children succeed in school and experience the joy of learning.

  • How it Works
    Senior Kindergarten to Grade 3 teachers refer children who they believe will benefit from the one-on-one support.

    The program coordinator matches families with volunteers who meet once or twice a week to provide targeted learning activities to reinforce skills.
